Why is it called an ugly Christmas Sweater if people celebrate them?

We all have received an invite to an “ugly Christmas sweater party” via a coworker or just that one crafty friend who goes overboard. The idea of everyone getting together and wearing their sweaters is a great one in my opinion if you don’t call it “ugly”. Maybe including in the invite that everyone is to purchase a thrifty sweater and then come to the party to craft-it-up with Christmas decor. Then pictures can be taken and it just be a “Crafty Christmas Party”... Why celebrate something unattractive? That’s not glam. Here is my online creation of what my Christmas Sweater would look like.

The picture in the center of the sweater is a stencil I added for a focus on the sweater. I would cut the bottom of my sweater in an asymmetrical cut for added style, and add some gold ornaments to bring out the colors in the stencil. The Dorothy Perkins Christmas tree beanie was a good way to add a little extra to my crafty sweater. I topped it off with a bow on the beanie :)
